José Manuel Torres, B.S.
Clinical Research Coordinator
José is a Clinical Research Coordinator at Covenant. In his role, he serves as a primary liaison for patients throughout the studies they participate in, guiding them through each stage of the research process. He coordinates study visits, collects and manages data, and ensures accuracy and compliance so that results can be properly analyzed. José takes pride in balancing the organizational demands of research with the personal side of patient care, helping individuals feel supported and informed during their time in a study.
Born in La Habana, Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida, José is a native Spanish speaker. He earned his B.S. in Health Sciences from the University of South Florida, concentrating in Behavior, Social, and Health Sciences, and he is currently completing his M.S. in Data Analytics at Western Governors University. Before entering clinical research, he worked in retail and as an advocate for victims of violent crimes—roles that strengthened his communication skills and taught him the importance of meeting people with empathy in difficult circumstances.
José is motivated by the transformative impact research can have on patients' lives. Some of the most rewarding moments for him are when participants share that their health has improved enough for them to return to activities they had not been able to enjoy in years. These stories reinforce his commitment to research and fuel his long-term goal of becoming a Data Scientist.
Outside of Covenant, José enjoys keeping freshwater aquariums, including one that houses a group of mini pea puffer fish–tiny creatures known for their rare ability to inflate and their perpetually cheerful appearance. He is also an avid dog lover and, if not for research, he would likely be a dog trainer.
