Kara serves as a Sub Investigator at Covenant Metabolic Specialists, where she assists the Principal Investigator in conducting clinical trials with accuracy and care. In her role, she screens and consents patients for studies in liver and metabolic disease, performs physical exams, educates participants about their health, and helps safeguard their safety and well-being throughout the research process.

Kara earned both her BSN in Nursing and MSN in Adult Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Florida in Tampa and is CPR/AED certified. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in Telemetry and the Medical-Surgical Unit at Advent Hospital, often floating to the Emergency Department and CSDU. She then spent nearly a decade at Moffitt Cancer Center in a variety of positions, including research, outpatient nursing, and the Clinical Pathways Department, before serving as a Nurse Practitioner in the Endocrine Oncology Department. Kara also gained experience in Interventional Pain, where she developed a special interest in helping patients manage pain without opioids and in exploring integrative and functional medicine to uncover root causes of disease. While she grew significantly in these roles, she ultimately felt called to return to research—making Covenant the perfect place to continue her professional journey.

Motivated by her love of learning and growth, Kara values the team dynamic at Covenant and deeply appreciates the organization's strong Christian foundation. She feels supported by her colleagues and takes pride in being able to share her own knowledge while also learning from others. Achieving her long-term goal of serving as a Nurse Practitioner and Sub Investigator in research has been a milestone for Kara, and she continues to expand her expertise through ongoing study in her field.

Outside of her work, Kara is one of six sisters—each with a name beginning with the letter "K." Her father often joked that the youngest would be named "Kaboosa;" the caboose of the family. She is happily married to her husband, Jeff, and is a proud mother of three children and grandmother of three. A devoted dog lover, Kara especially adores golden retrievers, and she finds great joy in serving her community, whether through church functions or helping to feed the hungry.
