Susana Perez-Martinez, PhD
Clinical Research Coordinator
Susana is a Clinical Research Coordinator at Covenant, where she oversees all trial-related activities with a focus on participant safety, data integrity, and regulatory compliance. Her role allows her to support innovative treatments for liver disease while contributing to the advancement of clinical research in a meaningful way. She was drawn to Covenant not only for its cutting-edge work but also for its welcoming and peaceful environment.
Born in Holguin, Cuba, Susana is fluent in both Spanish and English. She holds a B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Louisville. Her background began in pre-clinical laboratory research, but after completing her doctorate, she transitioned into clinical research to gain direct experience with patients and trials. She first worked as a clinical research manager in ophthalmology, a position that sharpened her strategic thinking, organizational skills, and understanding of compliance––tools she now applies daily in her current role.
Susana continues to stay engaged in academic work and is currently working on publishing one of the manuscripts from her doctoral program. She is passionate about the power of research to transform care and expand treatment options for patients with serious conditions.
A fun fact about Susana: she holds four citizenships––a reflection of her global experience and multicultural background.
